                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, Words cannot convey the deep shock and sorrow that
 1-2     accompanied the tragic death of Officer Michael David Moore, who
 1-3     was killed in the line of duty on February 15, 1997; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, A graduate of Madison High School in Middletown,
 1-5     Ohio, he maintained an abiding commitment to public service
 1-6     throughout his lifetime and dutifully served his country as a
 1-7     member of the United States Marine Corps from 1982 to 1986,
 1-8     completing two tours of duty in Beirut, Lebanon; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, This March, Officer Moore would have completed a
1-10     decade of distinguished service with the Garland Police Department;
1-11     throughout his career, he exemplified the highest standards of
1-12     professionalism, inspiring others by his loyalty, dependability,
1-13     and exemplary conduct; and
1-14           WHEREAS, He began his law enforcement career in the
1-15     department's narcotics unit before joining the patrol division,
1-16     where he capably served his fellow citizens at the time of his
1-17     passing; and
1-18           WHEREAS, During his tenure, Officer Moore earned the respect
1-19     and admiration of his associates for his strong sense of duty and
1-20     brave and meritorious service; he was honored for his efforts with
1-21     several prestigious awards, including eight Certificates of Merit,
1-22     two Merit Award Bars, and 17 citizen commendations, and he was
1-23     named Officer of the Month in March 1993; and
1-24           WHEREAS, Officer Moore was a man of tremendous integrity and
 2-1     courage whose outstanding record of public service speaks for
 2-2     itself; though his life has been cut tragically short, his memory
 2-3     endures as an inspiration to all who were privileged to know him,
 2-4     as well as to a new generation of law enforcement officers who
 2-5     choose to follow in this difficult but essential profession; now,
 2-6     therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas
 2-8     hereby pay tribute to the life of Officer Michael David Moore and
 2-9     extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
2-10     beloved wife, Sheila Moore; to his daughters, Courtney Moore and
2-11     Caitlin Moore; to his son, Zachary Moore; to his parents, Robert
2-12     and Glenna Moore; and to the many other friends and relatives of
2-13     this esteemed Texan; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-15     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-16     House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in
2-17     memory of Officer Michael David Moore.
