By Gallego H.C.R. No. 146 75R9062 JTR-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of James T. "Happy" Shahan on January 1-2 30, 1996, greatly saddened his family and many friends, and we join 1-3 them in mourning his passing; and 1-4 WHEREAS, One of the pioneers of the state's burgeoning film 1-5 industry, Mr. Shahan was instrumental in the development of the 1-6 Texas Film Commission, but he was best known as the creator of 1-7 Alamo Village, a historical recreation of an early Texas 1-8 settlement; built in 1959 as the set for the John Wayne film The 1-9 Alamo, it has since appeared in more than 60 movies, television 1-10 shows, and commercials, and it remains a favorite site for 1-11 filmmakers from around the world; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Mr. Shahan contributed much not only to the film 1-13 industry but also to his own community, and the high esteem in 1-14 which he was held by his friends and neighbors was aptly expressed 1-15 when he was honored with the Third Quarter Community Pride Award in 1-16 1995; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Happy Shahan's many accomplishments as a promoter 1-18 and advocate of the film industry in Texas have left a lasting 1-19 legacy, and it is fitting that we honor his memory at this time; 1-20 now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-22 hereby honor the memory of James T. "Happy" Shahan and extend 1-23 sincere sympathy to his beloved wife, Virginia, to the other 1-24 members of his family, and to his many friends; and, be it further 2-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-2 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-3 House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in 2-4 memory of James T. "Happy" Shahan.
