HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas Retired Employees Association was 1-2 chartered on July 14, 1977, for the purpose of enhancing and 1-3 improving the status, benefits, and morale of retired state 1-4 employees; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The main objective of the Texas Retired Employees 1-6 Association is to identify the needs of state retirees and respond 1-7 appropriately by making those needs known to legislators, the Texas 1-8 Employees Retirement System, and various federal agencies; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The association also helps to establish priorities 1-10 for the betterment of retirees such as retirement annuities, 1-11 adequate health programs, and other benefits; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The members of the organization represent a strong 1-13 and united front on matters of mutual interest regarding retired 1-14 state employees; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The annual meeting of the association that will be 1-16 held in Austin on March 18, 1997, will mark 20 years of service to 1-17 the welfare of retired state employees; now, therefore, be it 1-18 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-19 hereby commend the Texas Retired Employees Association on its many 1-20 contributions to the welfare of retired state employees; and, be it 1-21 further 1-22 RESOLVED, That March 18, 1997, be designated as Texas Retired 1-23 Employees Association Day in Texas; and, be it further 1-24 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-1 prepared for the Texas Retired Employees Association as an 2-2 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and 2-3 Senate.
