HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, Members of the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce  will

 1-2     be in Austin on March 20, 1997, as part of Gainesville Chamber of

 1-3     Commerce Day at the Capitol, and it is a privilege to welcome these

 1-4     esteemed Texans to the Capital City; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Established in 1850, Gainesville occupies an

 1-6     exciting chapter in the saga of the Lone Star State; this North

 1-7     Texas region was originally inhabited by Wichita Indians, and Anglo

 1-8     settlers began arriving in the early 1840s, seeking to carve out

 1-9     their place among the region's rolling hills; and

1-10           WHEREAS, Much of the city's colorful history can be

1-11     experienced by touring the Morton Museum of Cooke County and the

1-12     city's fine collection of 19th-century historic homes; other

1-13     interesting attractions include the Frank Buck Zoo, named for the

1-14     famous adventurer and Gainesville native, and the Texas Travel

1-15     Information Center, which features a staff of professional travel

1-16     counselors to assist Cooke County's many visitors; and

1-17           WHEREAS, The distinctive countryside of this North Texas

1-18     region offers visitors and residents a host of scenic drives with

1-19     numerous superb vistas, while Gainesville's Factory Outlet Shops

1-20     are a mecca for bargain hunters and provide valuable employment

1-21     opportunities for Gainesville's citizens; and

1-22           WHEREAS, The city offers a range of excellent education

1-23     options to its residents, including six elementary schools and a

1-24     junior and senior high school; in addition, Gainesville is home to

 2-1     Cooke County Junior College and North Central Texas College; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, The people of Gainesville are justifiably proud of

 2-3     their city, for its rich heritage is uniquely intertwined with the

 2-4     development of the Lone Star State, and the many contributions of

 2-5     the city's citizens are truly worthy of special legislative

 2-6     recognition; now, therefore, be it

 2-7           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

 2-8     hereby designate March 20, 1997, as Gainesville Chamber of Commerce

 2-9     Day at the Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the members of this

2-10     fine organization as they celebrate this significant event; and, be

2-11     it further

2-12           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-13     prepared for the members of the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce as

2-14     an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives

2-15     and Senate.
