WHEREAS, By generating 20.7 billion kilowatt-hours of energy
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, The South Texas Project Electric Generating Station,
1-2 through the noteworthy efforts of its team members, serves as a
1-3 valuable energy resource to the citizens of Texas; and
1-4 WHEREAS, By generating 20.7 billion kilowatt-hours of energy in
1-5 1996, the station met the electrical needs of 1,500,000 Texas homes
1-6 during that year; and
1-7 WHEREAS, The South Texas Project Team set a new standard for
1-8 the safety and efficiency of U.S. nuclear energy plant refueling
1-9 outages, refueling Unit 2 in 17.6 days in February 1997; and
1-10 WHEREAS, South Texas Project Unit 2 ranked second in the U.S.
1-11 and sixth in the world for electrical power generation from nuclear
1-12 energy in 1996, while Unit 1 placed third and seventh respectively
1-13 in those categories; and
1-14 WHEREAS, The Institute of Nuclear Power Operations on April
1-15 18, 1996, rated South Texas Project performance as category 1, the
1-16 institute's highest performance ranking, noting the project's
1-17 excellent overall performance and that no significant weaknesses
1-18 were found; and
1-19 WHEREAS, On May 1, 1996, the South Texas Project Team
1-20 received from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission its Systematic
1-21 Assessment of Licensee Performance ratings, having earned a mark of
1-22 "superior" in the maintenance and support categories and "good"
1-23 ratings for operations and engineering; now, therefore, be it
1-24 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-1 hereby acknowledge its appreciation of the South Texas Project Team
2-2 for their unwavering commitment to setting and meeting the highest
2-3 possible standards of safety, efficiency, and performance and, in
2-4 recognition of the team members' many significant achievements,
2-5 extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success in the
2-6 future.
