By Price H.C.R. No. 169 75R8892 SAJ-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature is proud to join the Port 1-2 Arthur community in honoring Dorothy M. Ingram for her outstanding 1-3 service as an educator; in recognition of the many contributions 1-4 she has made through the years, her family and friends will join to 1-5 celebrate her achievements at a banquet held in her honor on April 1-6 12, 1997, and this tribute is indeed well-deserved; and 1-7 WHEREAS, A native of Port Arthur, Miss Ingram attended 1-8 Prairie View A&M University and had a profound effect on public 1-9 education for 40 years as both a teacher and an administrator with 1-10 the local school district; and 1-11 WHEREAS, She served as a positive role model to countless 1-12 Texans as principal of Carver Elementary School from 1952 to 1972, 1-13 and she continued to effectively address a host of important issues 1-14 as principal of both Pease and Wheatley elementary schools before 1-15 retiring in 1975; and 1-16 WHEREAS, This esteemed educator has generously shared her 1-17 wealth of expertise with others in leadership capacities with the 1-18 Port Arthur Chapter of the Retired Teachers Association and the 1-19 Southeast Texas District Principals and Supervisors Association; 1-20 and 1-21 WHEREAS, Her remarkable accomplishments will long endure, for 1-22 a college scholarship has been established in her name, enabling a 1-23 deserving student to follow in her footsteps in this rewarding 1-24 profession; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Miss Ingram has further worked for the betterment of 2-2 her community through her involvement in many civic and political 2-3 organizations, including the Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce, the 2-4 Jefferson County Democratic Women's Club, and the Boy Scouts, and 2-5 her remarkable involvement has earned her the heartfelt gratitude 2-6 of many in the community; and 2-7 WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, she has been sustained by her 2-8 deep faith as a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church, and she has 2-9 shared her devotion with others as an organist for St. Mark 2-10 Lutheran Church; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Dorothy Ingram has enhanced the quality of life in 2-12 Port Arthur in countless ways, and her exceptional commitment is a 2-13 source of inspiration to all who are privileged to know her; now, 2-14 therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-16 hereby commend Dorothy M. Ingram for her exemplary civic and 2-17 professional involvement and extend to her warmest best wishes for 2-18 continued success and happiness in the future; and, be it further 2-19 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-20 prepared for Miss Ingram as an expression of high regard by the 2-21 Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
