                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature is proud to honor the parent

 1-2     and teacher volunteers who make up the Texas Congress of Parents

 1-3     and Teachers, better known as Texas PTA, for providing 88 years of

 1-4     outstanding service to children and youth throughout the Lone Star

 1-5     State; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, Texas PTA is proud to be affiliated with National

 1-7     PTA, which is celebrating 100 years of advocating for children; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, Children are the first concern of Texas PTA, as is

 1-9     evident in the work of the volunteers who promote the health,

1-10     welfare, and safety of children in the home, school, and community;

1-11     secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and

1-12     youth; and develop between educators and the general public united

1-13     efforts to secure for all children and youth the highest advantages

1-14     in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Each year, Texas PTA names an "Outstanding

1-16     Legislator" who also exemplifies the ideals of Texas PTA through

1-17     his or her legislative actions; and

1-18           WHEREAS, During the 21st annual Texas PTA Legislative

1-19     Conference, the organization will name Senator Bill Ratliff as its

1-20     Outstanding Legislator; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Today, more than 725,000 Texas PTA members work in

1-22     cooperation with public educators across the state, and their

1-23     enthusiastic efforts have played a key role in developing

1-24     innovative and inspirational educational goals that will help

 2-1     prepare Texas youth for leadership roles well into the next

 2-2     millennium; and

 2-3           WHEREAS, On more than 2,600 campuses, Texas PTA can achieve

 2-4     its goals because of the volunteers who provide selfless service,

 2-5     give generously of their time, and use their talents and energies

 2-6     for the betterment of the youth of our state; and

 2-7           WHEREAS, Throughout its proud history, Texas PTA has worked

 2-8     to improve educational opportunities for all Texas children, and

 2-9     its exemplary programs continue to instill in them the values that

2-10     have made our state strong and great; now, therefore, be it

2-11           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

2-12     hereby express appreciation to the members of Texas PTA for their

2-13     faithful service in behalf of the children of our state and extend

2-14     to them best wishes for a memorable 100th anniversary celebration

2-15     and a productive legislative conference; and, be it further

2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-17     prepared for Texas PTA as an expression of high regard by the Texas

2-18     House of Representatives and Senate.
