HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, On April 5, 1997, the Confederate Air Force, Desert 1-2 Squadron, will conduct its fifth annual fly-in at Schlemeyer Field 1-3 in Odessa, and this event is indeed a meaningful occasion; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Desert Squadron's primary objective is the 1-5 construction of a new aircraft hangar, with a meeting area and 1-6 small museum to display local artifacts, and squadron members, many 1-7 of them World War II veterans, hope to see the facility opened in 1-8 1997; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The theme of this year's fly-in is "honor the past, 1-10 appreciate the present, support the future," and in addition to 1-11 displays of World War II aircraft and military vehicles, the event 1-12 will feature several stirring fly-bys, including the "missing man 1-13 honor flight," and the dedication of the honor wall; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Those individuals who strive to preserve for all 1-15 Americans the legacy of the gallant men and women who served their 1-16 nation during World War II are performing a service that is truly 1-17 worthy of special legislative praise and recognition; now, 1-18 therefore, be it 1-19 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-20 hereby commend the Confederate Air Force, Desert Squadron, for many 1-21 significant contributions to the community, state, and nation; and, 1-22 be it further 1-23 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 1-24 prepared for the Confederate Air Force, Desert Squadron, as an 2-1 expression of high regard by the Legislature of the State of Texas.
