HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, On April 15, 1997, many proud residents of Bryan and
1-2 College Station will be in Austin to celebrate Bryan-College
1-3 Station Day at the Capitol, and this festive event offers an ideal
1-4 opportunity to extol the many virtues of these noteworthy cities;
1-5 and
1-6 WHEREAS, Nestled in the lush Brazos Valley, the communities
1-7 are surrounded by gently rolling fields and rich woodlands, and the
1-8 area's remarkable natural beauty is an apt reflection of its wealth
1-9 of natural resources; a cattle and hog production center, the
1-10 region also produces sorghums, corn, cotton, wheat, oats, and
1-11 pecans; and
1-12 WHEREAS, In more recent years, agriculture has been joined by
1-13 a number of other businesses in contributing to the area's
1-14 prosperity, and computers, offshore technology, and research and
1-15 development firms have all taken their places as mainstays of the
1-16 local economy; and
1-17 WHEREAS, The modern marriage of agribusiness and
1-18 state-of-the-art scientific inquiry is embodied in Texas A&M
1-19 University, the nation's third-largest institution of higher
1-20 learning and a world leader in the development of new agricultural
1-21 and industrial technologies; integral to the phenomenal success of
1-22 Texas as a center of commerce, the university is both heir to a
1-23 rich legacy of educational excellence and an indispensable
1-24 component of the state's economic future; and
2-1 WHEREAS, Bryan-College Station's winning combination of
2-2 small-town charm and the amenities of a modern metropolis has won
2-3 the hearts of the many visitors who return to become residents, and
2-4 the area's high quality of life and booming economy have made it
2-5 one of the fastest-growing in the nation; and
2-6 WHEREAS, Blessed with a dynamic and friendly citizenry,
2-7 abundant natural resources, and a thriving economy, the
2-8 Bryan-College Station community is one of the Lone Star State's
2-9 greatest assets, and even as its residents take pride and
2-10 satisfaction in the area's remarkable success, they look forward to
2-11 the new challenges and opportunities of the next century; now,
2-12 therefore, be it
2-13 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-14 hereby designate April 15, 1997, as Bryan-College Station Day at
2-15 the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the Bryan-College
2-16 Station delegation.
