No. 197 75R10999 JHS-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, This year marks the 50th anniversary of the United 1-2 Way of Midland, and the many years of community service provided by 1-3 the employees and volunteers of this esteemed group are indeed 1-4 worthy of special legislative recognition on this momentous 1-5 occasion; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Established in 1947 as a fund-raising organization 1-7 in association with the Midland Chamber of Commerce, the Community 1-8 Chest, as it was then known, soon broadened its mandate to address 1-9 those needs in the community that were not then being met; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Renamed The United Fund in 1960, the group adopted 1-11 its present moniker 13 years later, and, throughout all these 1-12 changes, the range of activities and types of assistance offered by 1-13 the United Way of Midland have continued to increase and expand to 1-14 meet the changing needs of the community's diverse population; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The United Way of Midland's 16 member agencies lead 1-16 the way in providing health and human services to the city's 1-17 residents; in 1996, more than 36,000 Midlanders from all walks of 1-18 life received assistance from this vital organization; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The dedication and devotion of the board of 1-20 directors and the commitment of the countless individuals who 1-21 volunteer their time to the United Way of Midland have enabled this 1-22 outstanding organization to maintain its high standards of 1-23 excellence for the past 50 years, and the Texas Legislature is 1-24 proud to honor the United Way of Midland on the occasion of its 2-1 golden anniversary; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-3 hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the United Way of 2-4 Midland and extend to the members of this worthy organization 2-5 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for the United Way of Midland as an expression of high 2-8 regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
