HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature is proud to welcome the many

 1-2     fine Texans who have journeyed to Austin to celebrate Hood County

 1-3     Day at the Capitol; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Organized in 1866, Hood County is named for

 1-5     Confederate General John B. Hood; the county's rolling grasslands

 1-6     are spotted with majestic groves of pecan and oak trees, and the

 1-7     area is home to a thriving agribusiness industry; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, The city of Granbury, the county seat, was settled

 1-9     in 1854 and sits nestled on the shores of Lake Granbury on the

1-10     Brazos; the city's downtown area, which features Courthouse Square,

1-11     served as the model for the Texas Main Street program and is a

1-12     popular tourist attraction; and

1-13           WHEREAS, With the restoration of the celebrated Granbury

1-14     Opera House and the continued development of Tarleton State

1-15     University's Dora Lee Langdon Cultural and Education Center,

1-16     Granbury has become a center of culture in North Central Texas; and

1-17           WHEREAS, Known for its lively celebrations and festivals, as

1-18     well as its array of antique shops and tours of historic homes,

1-19     Granbury attracts thousands of visitors year-round and serves as a

1-20     hub for Hood County's many scenic areas; and

1-21           WHEREAS, The citizens of Hood County are justifiably proud of

1-22     their county and the city of Granbury, for the members of this

1-23     community have played a significant role in Texas' development, and

1-24     their many contributions to the Lone Star State are truly deserving

 2-1     of special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it

 2-2           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

 2-3     hereby recognize April 15, 1997, as Hood County Day at the Capitol

 2-4     and extend a warm welcome to the fine citizens who have traveled to

 2-5     the Capitol City to celebrate this significant event; and, be it

 2-6     further

 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-8     prepared for the members of the Granbury Chamber of Commerce as an

 2-9     expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and

2-10     Senate.
