No. 201 75R9822 JHS-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The 25th anniversary of the establishment of 1-2 Guadalupe Mountains National Park will be commemorated on September 1-3 30, 1997, and this event is certainly deserving of special 1-4 legislative recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Participants will celebrate this landmark occasion 1-6 at Frijole Ranch, where they will be treated to delicious Texas 1-7 barbecue, toe-tapping country music, and an afternoon of 1-8 reminiscing about the quarter-century of pleasure and adventure 1-9 that the park has provided to the public; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Created in 1972, Guadalupe Mountains National Park 1-11 hosts more than 200,000 visitors annually, and the park's 80-plus 1-12 miles of hiking trails wind through some of the most rugged and 1-13 scenic country in the Lone Star State; the park's nearly 90,000 1-14 acres of Chihuahuan desert lowlands, canyons, and montane forests 1-15 are home to several threatened and endangered species as well as 1-16 other wildlife, and this mountainous region features Texas' four 1-17 highest peaks, including 8,749-foot Guadalupe Peak; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Texans are justifiably proud of the diverse and 1-19 magnificent landscapes that make up the Lone Star State, and the 1-20 importance of preserving these areas cannot be overstated; the 1-21 beauty and grandeur of Guadalupe Mountains National Park has 1-22 inspired countless individuals, and the 25th anniversary of this 1-23 West Texas region is indeed a day worth noting in the annals of 1-24 Texas history; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-2 hereby commemorate the 25th anniversary of Guadalupe Mountains 2-3 National Park and extend sincere best wishes to the organizers of 2-4 this event and to the many people who work to maintain this 2-5 national treasure.
