                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, The family and many friends of the Honorable James

 1-2     C.  Day, Jr., were deeply saddened by his passing on December 29,

 1-3     1996, at the age of 64, and the Texas Legislature joins in mourning

 1-4     the loss of this distinguished public servant; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Day was born August 15, 1932, to

 1-6     J. C. Day, Sr., and Vera C. Wilson Day of Brookshire; he spent his

 1-7     childhood in that locale, receiving his early education at

 1-8     Brookshire Elementary School and Katy High School before attending

 1-9     The University of Texas at Austin; and

1-10           WHEREAS, He returned to his childhood home, however, to

1-11     represent the people of Waller and Fort Bend counties in the Texas

1-12     House of Representatives, and from 1957 to 1961 his wise and

1-13     thoughtful leadership earned him the respect and gratitude of his

1-14     constituents in District 30; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Throughout all his endeavors, Mr. Day benefited from

1-16     the love and support of his wife of more than 37 years, Annie Laura

1-17     Mason Day; their relationship grew in mutual respect and trust with

1-18     each passing year, and their marriage was blessed with four

1-19     children, Wilson McFarland, Nancy Lynne, Laura Anne, and the late

1-20     Randol Mason Day; and

1-21           WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman will long be remembered for

1-22     his many contributions to his community, to his constituency, and

1-23     to the State of Texas, and his unique spirit endures in the hearts

1-24     of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it

 2-1           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

 2-2     hereby pay tribute to the memory of the Honorable James C. Day,

 2-3     Jr., and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family:

 2-4     to his wife, Annie Laura Mason Day; to his children, Wilson

 2-5     McFarland Day, Nancy Lynne Day McCauley, and Laura Anne Day; to his

 2-6     grandchildren, James Byron McCauley, Sarah Kathleen Day, Mason

 2-7     McFarland Day, and Jared Edward Day-Lively; and to all the

 2-8     relatives and many friends of this beloved man; and, be it further

 2-9           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-10     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-11     House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in

2-12     memory of the Honorable James C. Day, Jr.
