                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is proud to

 1-2     commemorate the month of May 1997 as Older Americans Month in

 1-3     recognition of the many worthwhile contributions senior citizens

 1-4     have made and continue to make in our society; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Homes and Services for the

 1-6     Aging (TAHSA), which represents nonprofit homes and communities,

 1-7     conducts an annual art contest for the residents of its members to

 1-8     acknowledge the vitality and creativity of all older Texans; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Throughout the state of Texas more than 350

1-10     residents, ranging in age from 65 to 100, have participated in the

1-11     competition by submitting their art, crafts, and literary works for

1-12     consideration; and

1-13           WHEREAS, The winning entries will be featured in a special

1-14     exhibition at the State Capitol building from May 12 to May 24,

1-15     1997; and

1-16           WHEREAS, The awards ceremony of TAHSA's Seventh Annual Art

1-17     Exhibition, "Art is Ageless," will be held on Saturday, May 17,

1-18     1997, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Capitol to honor all participants

1-19     and winners; and

1-20           WHEREAS, It is fitting that these treasured members of our

1-21     society are being valued for their unique insights, talents, and

1-22     life experiences; now, therefore, be it

1-23           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

1-24     hereby congratulate the winners and participants of the Texas

 2-1     Association of Homes and Services for the Aging's Seventh Annual

 2-2     Art Exhibition and recognize their work as a reflection of the

 2-3     creativity of all older Texans; and, be it further

 2-4           RESOLVED, That the Legislature of the State of Texas extend

 2-5     its highest regard and appreciation to all participants and welcome

 2-6     these talented Texans and their families to Austin and the State

 2-7     Capitol for the awards ceremony of the "Art is Ageless" exhibition.
