                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, On May 23, 1997, E. James Bowles will be honored for

 1-2     his many years of service with the American Association of Retired

 1-3     Persons; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Mr. Bowles is a retired engineer and a graduate of

 1-5     the Southern Methodist University School of Engineering and Applied

 1-6     Science; before his retirement in 1977, he was president of

 1-7     Dallas-based Bowles and Edens Company and served as vice president

 1-8     of the supply division of CertainTeed Corporation in Valley Forge,

 1-9     Pennsylvania; and

1-10           WHEREAS, A former president of the Texas Society of

1-11     Professional Engineers, Mr. Bowles is a registered professional

1-12     engineer in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas, and he

1-13     currently serves on the board of directors of the Senior Citizens

1-14     of Greater Dallas; he is a member of Highland Park United Methodist

1-15     Church and has spent the years following his retirement actively

1-16     promoting the concerns of people of all ages in regard to their

1-17     health, welfare, safety, and finances; and

1-18           WHEREAS, Mr. Bowles has been particularly diligent in behalf

1-19     of retired Americans, serving in a variety of capacities with many

1-20     organizations and associations that promote the rights of these

1-21     important citizens; this dedication and commitment to excellence

1-22     has earned him the respect and admiration of his peers, and it is

1-23     indeed a privilege to recognize him for his achievements at this

1-24     time; now, therefore, be it

 2-1           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

 2-2     hereby commend E. James Bowles for his longtime service with the

 2-3     American Association of Retired Persons and extend to him sincere

 2-4     best wishes for continued success and happiness in the future; and,

 2-5     be it further

 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-7     prepared for Mr. Bowles as an expression of high regard by the

 2-8     Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
