HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, On May 23, 1997, the American Association of Retired

 1-2     Persons will honor Leo L. Baker for his work in support of that

 1-3     organization, and it is fitting on this auspicious occasion to

 1-4     recognize him for his many accomplishments; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Since retiring from his position as a petroleum

 1-6     engineer, Mr. Baker has distinguished himself as an eloquent

 1-7     advocate for retired and elderly Americans, and he has dedicated

 1-8     himself to addressing their needs; a valued member of the American

 1-9     Association of Retired Persons, he has served in the Texas

1-10     Silver-Haired Legislature and has chaired the Senior Affairs

1-11     Commission of the city of Dallas as well as the commission's

1-12     Employment Advisory Council; and

1-13           WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Baker has drawn strength and

1-14     inspiration from his association with Lovers Lane United Methodist

1-15     Church, and he has given freely of himself to church endeavors,

1-16     serving on the Older Adults Council and the Driver Corps and as a

1-17     lay hospital visitor; and

1-18           WHEREAS, Mr. Baker has also relied on the love and support of

1-19     his close-knit family, and he and his wife Pauline take great pride

1-20     in their children and grandchildren; and

1-21           WHEREAS, In pursuing his enthusiastic and vigorous approach

1-22     to life, Leo Baker has greatly benefited countless numbers of his

1-23     fellow Texans, and his outstanding efforts in behalf of the common

1-24     good are indeed worthy of special praise and recognition at this

 2-1     time; now, therefore, be it

 2-2           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

 2-3     hereby honor Leo L. Baker for his many contributions to the elderly

 2-4     citizens of this state and extend to him sincere best wishes for

 2-5     continued success and happiness in the future; and, be it further

 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-7     prepared for Mr. Baker as an expression of high regard by the Texas

 2-8     House of Representatives and Senate.
