HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of Glenn Hopkins on April 11,
1-2 1997, at the age of 53, has brought a great loss to the many
1-3 friends and relatives of this highly esteemed and deeply loved
1-4 O'Donnell educator; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Born November 27, 1943, in Prescott, Arizona, he was
1-6 graduated from Tahoka High School and pursued his higher education
1-7 at West Texas State University, where he earned his bachelor's
1-8 degree; he continued his pursuit of academic excellence as a
1-9 student at Texas Tech University, attaining his master's degree
1-10 from that fine institution; and
1-11 WHEREAS, Formerly an outstanding football player, Mr. Hopkins
1-12 took a position at O'Donnell High School as a teacher and coach,
1-13 and he brought to the classroom and the playing field the
1-14 dedication to excellence that was the hallmark of all his many
1-15 efforts; and
1-16 WHEREAS, A dynamic and versatile individual, Mr. Hopkins was
1-17 also blessed with exceptional administrative skills, which he ably
1-18 demonstrated not only as a junior high school principal and as
1-19 principal of O'Donnell High School, but also as the director of
1-20 school plays; and
1-21 WHEREAS, He was an active member of the Texas High School
1-22 Principal Association, University Interscholastic League Advisory
1-23 Council, and Texas Educational Theatre Association, and he was also
1-24 an active member of the First Baptist Church; and
2-1 WHEREAS, Glenn Hopkins was a man of great generosity and
2-2 passion, although his warmth and wisdom are gone from us now, his
2-3 remarkable spirit will surely live on in the hearts of the many
2-4 people whose lives he touched during his time on this earth; now,
2-5 therefore, be it
2-6 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-7 hereby pay tribute to the life of Glenn Hopkins and extend sincere
2-8 sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Donna Hopkins;
2-9 to his mother, Wanda Inklebarger; to his brother Donald Hopkins;
2-10 and to the many other friends and relatives of this beloved
2-11 gentleman; and, be it further
2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-13 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-14 House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in
2-15 memory of Glenn Hopkins.
