 1-6                         HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-7           WHEREAS, The recent passing of Glenn Hopkins on April 11,

 1-8     1997, at the age of 53, has brought a great loss to the many

 1-9     friends and relatives of this highly esteemed and deeply loved

1-10     O'Donnell educator; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Born November 27, 1943, in Prescott, Arizona, he was

1-12     graduated from Tahoka High School and pursued his higher education

1-13     at West Texas State University, where he earned his bachelor's

1-14     degree; he continued his pursuit of academic excellence as a

1-15     student at Texas Tech University, attaining his master's degree

1-16     from that fine institution; and

1-17           WHEREAS, Formerly an outstanding football player, Mr. Hopkins

1-18     took a  position at O'Donnell High School as a teacher and coach,

1-19     and he brought to the classroom and the playing field the

1-20     dedication to excellence that was the hallmark of all his many

1-21     efforts; and

1-22           WHEREAS, A dynamic and versatile individual, Mr. Hopkins was

1-23     also blessed with exceptional administrative skills, which he ably

1-24     demonstrated not only as a junior high school principal and as

1-25     principal of O'Donnell High School, but also as the director of

1-26     school plays; and

1-27           WHEREAS, He  was an active member of the Texas High School

1-28     Principal Association, University Interscholastic League Advisory

1-29     Council, and Texas Educational Theatre Association, and he was also

1-30     an active member of the First Baptist Church; and

1-31           WHEREAS, Glenn Hopkins was a man of great generosity and

1-32     passion, although his warmth and wisdom are gone from us now, his

1-33     remarkable spirit will surely live on in the hearts of the many

1-34     people whose lives he touched during his time on this earth; now,

1-35     therefore, be it

1-36           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

1-37     hereby pay tribute to the life of Glenn Hopkins and extend sincere

1-38     sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Donna Hopkins;

1-39     to his mother, Wanda Inklebarger; to his brother Donald Hopkins;

1-40     and to the many other friends and relatives of this beloved

1-41     gentleman; and, be it further

1-42           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

1-43     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

1-44     House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in

1-45     memory of Glenn Hopkins.
