                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Sergeant Millard "Dee" Campbell on

 1-2     June 25, 1996, at the age of 30, brought a great loss to his family

 1-3     and many friends, and the members of this legislature are proud to

 1-4     honor the life of this esteemed gentleman; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Sergeant Campbell lost his life as a result of the

 1-6     1996 bombing of a United States military housing unit in Saudi

 1-7     Arabia, which claimed the lives of 18 other Americans as well; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, A member of the United States Air Force since 1987,

 1-9     this former Angleton High School baseball standout was in the midst

1-10     of his third tour of duty in the Middle East; previously, he had

1-11     served in the Persian Gulf region as part of the Desert Shield and

1-12     Desert Storm operations of the early 1990s; and

1-13           WHEREAS, On March 6, 1997, Sergeant Campbell's family

1-14     accepted the Angleton Chamber of Commerce's 39th annual Heritage

1-15     Award, which posthumously honored the life of this patriotic

1-16     gentleman; he joined a list of other distinguished Texans who have

1-17     received this prestigious award, including former governors Ann

1-18     Richards and William Clements and former United States senators

1-19     John Tower and Lloyd Bentsen; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Millard "Dee" Campbell was a man of generosity and

1-21     devotion who was taken from this world far too soon, and although

1-22     his leadership and quiet determination have been missed by all who

1-23     knew and loved him, his spirit continues to live on in the hearts

 2-1     and minds of the many people whose lives he touched; now,

 2-2     therefore, be it

 2-3           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

 2-4     hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Millard "Dee" Campbell

 2-5     and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his

 2-6     wife, Marie Railey Campbell; to his mother, Amaryllis Campbell; to

 2-7     his sisters, Karen Stroud and May Dell Crisp; to his brothers, Hoyt

 2-8     Campbell and Monty Campbell; and to the many other relatives and

 2-9     friends of this beloved gentleman; and, be it further

2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-11     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-12     House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in

2-13     memory of Sergeant Millard "Dee" Campbell.
