No. 272 75R13019 JTR-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, From June 7 to August 15, 1997, the Greater 1-2 Houston-Galveston area will welcome the International Space 1-3 University's Summer Session Program '97 to Texas, and this 1-4 noteworthy international event is truly deserving of special praise 1-5 and recognition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Bringing together more than 170 select postgraduate 1-7 students and professionals from around the world in cooperation 1-8 with Texas industry professionals, the International Space 1-9 University's Summer Session Program offers participants a unique 1-10 perspective on current space science, addressing the 1-11 interdisciplinary, intercultural, and international aspects of 1-12 space exploration and research; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Since 1988, the International Space University, with 1-14 its main campus in Strasbourg, France, has each year presented its 1-15 summer program in a different educational or research institution, 1-16 and this remarkable event now boasts more than 1,000 alumni from 1-17 over 65 countries; and 1-18 WHEREAS, This program's presence in Houston underscores the 1-19 city's importance both as the international center for human 1-20 exploration of space and as a vital contributor to global 1-21 commerce, and existing connections between the worlds of science 1-22 and business will be strengthened as representatives of these 1-23 fields discuss the practical applications of new space technology; 1-24 and 2-1 WHEREAS, High technology will play an increasingly important 2-2 role in the Lone Star State's prosperity as it enters the 21st 2-3 century, and the presence of this prestigious international 2-4 conference in the Lone Star State is an apt confirmation of the 2-5 significance of this mutually beneficial relationship; now, 2-6 therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-8 hereby congratulate all those associated with the International 2-9 Space University's Summer Session Program '97 and extend to them 2-10 sincere best wishes for continued success in the years to come and 2-11 designate June 9, 1997, the day of opening ceremonies, as 2-12 International Space University Day in the State of Texas.
