                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, Willie Lee Campbell Glass was accorded a great honor

 1-2     recently when she was selected to receive the Distinguished

 1-3     Achievement Citation from the Iowa State University Alumni

 1-4     Association, and it is a privilege to join in paying tribute to her

 1-5     at this time; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, This award represents the highest level of

 1-7     recognition given to the university's alumni, and Mrs. Glass will

 1-8     accept the prestigious honor at a special ceremony on October 24,

 1-9     1997, during the university's homecoming weekend festivities; and

1-10           WHEREAS, The daughter of two prominent Texas educators,

1-11     Mrs. Glass completed much of her education in the Lone Star State,

1-12     graduating from the Nacogdoches high school that was named for her

1-13     father and from Prairie View A&M University; at the age of 21, she

1-14     became one of the first black women to receive a master's degree

1-15     from Iowa State University's College of Home Economics, and she

1-16     went on to have a profound effect on higher education in this state

1-17     as a teacher, mentor, and role model to students at Texas College,

1-18     Prairie View A&M University, and Tyler Junior College; and

1-19           WHEREAS, In addition, this remarkable woman has served as an

1-20     educational consultant and advisor to several state agencies; the

1-21     profound impact she has had on her profession and her community is

1-22     evident in the numerous honors and awards she has received

1-23     throughout the years, and this latest recognition from her graduate

1-24     alma mater is a well-deserved addition to her impressive roster of

 2-1     achievements; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, Through both her professional service and her

 2-3     community involvement, Willie Lee Campbell Glass has set an

 2-4     outstanding example of leadership for others to follow, and her

 2-5     efforts have earned her the respect of her colleagues and friends

 2-6     and the gratitude of her fellow Texans; now, therefore, be it

 2-7           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

 2-8     hereby congratulate Willie Lee Campbell Glass on her receipt of the

 2-9     Iowa State University Alumni Association's Distinguished

2-10     Achievement Citation and extend to her warmest best wishes for

2-11     continued success and happiness in the future; and, be it further

2-12           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-13     prepared for Mrs. Glass as an expression of high regard by the

2-14     Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
