                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, The 75th Texas Legislature has adopted Senate Bill

 1-2     819 authorizing the creation of an official state lapel pin and

 1-3     ring to be made available for purchase by current and former

 1-4     members of the Texas Legislature; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Since 1906, the Texas Jewelers Association has

 1-6     represented the retail jewelry industry in this state, and in that

 1-7     capacity, has held a Jewelry Design Contest each year, with the

 1-8     winning design earning entry in the Jewelers of America national

 1-9     jewelry design contest; and

1-10           WHEREAS, Texas Jewelers Association entries have won the

1-11     national contest in two of the past five years; this success rate

1-12     is a testament to the exceptional artistic and design talents of

1-13     Texas jewelers, and such expertise would be welcome in the

1-14     selection of a design for the official state lapel pin and ring;

1-15     now, therefore, be it

1-16           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

1-17     hereby direct the General Services Commission to request the Texas

1-18     Jewelers Association to conduct a contest for the design of the

1-19     official state lapel pin and ring, pursuant to the provisions of

1-20     Senate Bill 819, and submit the results to the State Preservation

1-21     Board; and, be it further

1-22           RESOLVED, That the contest shall be conducted at no cost to

1-23     the state; and, be it further

1-24           RESOLVED, That any person in this state may participate in

 2-1     the contest without paying a fee; and, be it further

 2-2           RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official

 2-3     copy of this resolution to the executive director of the General

 2-4     Services Commission.
