                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, The State of Texas lost a tremendous opportunity to

 1-2     be the home of the world's leading scientific research facility

 1-3     when the federal government closed the superconducting

 1-4     supercollider; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Hundreds of millions of dollars worth of scientific

 1-6     technology obtained for use in the operation of the supercollider

 1-7     were at risk of being lost to out-of-state interests as a result of

 1-8     this decision; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Recognizing this fact, the chairman and board of

1-10     directors of International Isotopes, Inc., initiated the purchase

1-11     of this invaluable technology and established a research and

1-12     production facility to strengthen Texas' ties to the burgeoning

1-13     field of isotope experimentation; and

1-14           WHEREAS, The study of isotopes is one of the most

1-15     far-reaching and potentially beneficial areas of scientific

1-16     research today, and the results of this research can be applied to

1-17     the study of many different scientific pursuits, including

1-18     agriculture and medicine; and

1-19           WHEREAS, Medical isotopes play a vital role in the treatment

1-20     of certain kinds of cancer and may hold the key to the eventual

1-21     cure of this dreaded disease; however, only three other facilities

1-22     in the United States produce medical isotopes, and no other such

1-23     complexes exist in the southwestern United States; and

1-24           WHEREAS, Currently, Texas does not have a college of radio

 2-1     pharmacy for the study and use of medical isotopes, and  the

 2-2     chairman and board of directors of International Isotopes, Inc.,

 2-3     have agreed to donate land valued at more than $1 million for such

 2-4     a facility and to share their technology when such a department is

 2-5     created; and

 2-6           WHEREAS, International Isotopes, Inc., stands at the

 2-7     forefront of the growing field of isotope research and production,

 2-8     and the thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in revenue that

 2-9     will be created as a result of the company's dedication to this

2-10     cause will undoubtedly benefit a great many Texans; now, therefore,

2-11     be it

2-12           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

2-13     hereby commend the chairman and board of directors of International

2-14     Isotopes, Inc., for striving to keep isotope research and

2-15     production in Texas; and, be it further

2-16           RESOLVED, That the legislature recognize the importance of

2-17     creating a college of radio pharmacy in the Lone Star State and

2-18     express support of efforts toward reaching this worthy goal; and,

2-19     be it further

2-20           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-21     prepared for the chairman and board of directors of International

2-22     Isotopes, Inc., as an expression of high regard by the Texas House

2-23     of Representatives and Senate.
