HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, Glenn A. Goerke has served the citizens of the State 1-2 of Texas as interim chancellor for the University of Houston System 1-3 and president of the University of Houston-Victoria, the University 1-4 of Houston-Clear Lake, and the University of Houston with 1-5 integrity, compassion, and distinction for 12 years; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Glenn A. Goerke provided the leadership to establish 1-7 the sense of civility, community, pride, and history at each 1-8 institution through shared governance and open communications; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Glenn A. Goerke added immeasurably to the student, 1-10 faculty, and staff quality of life at each institution through his 1-11 superb leadership, tireless efforts, and countless innovations; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Glenn A. Goerke contributed significantly to higher 1-13 education in the State of Texas through his contributions to 1-14 professional organizations and state agencies as well as with 1-15 individual legislators and legislative committees through five 1-16 legislative sessions; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Glenn A. Goerke has become recognized and beloved as 1-18 both a campus and community leader in the city of Victoria on 1-19 behalf of the University of Houston-Victoria, in the Clear Lake 1-20 area on behalf of the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and in the 1-21 city of Houston on behalf of the University of Houston; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Glenn A. Goerke is well respected among the members 1-23 of the Texas Legislature for his superb presentations to 1-24 committees; his concise and clear responses to questions; his 2-1 responsiveness to the public and their elected officials; and his 2-2 optimistic, can-do attitude; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Glenn A. Goerke's commitment to excellence, 2-4 accountable management, and public responsiveness resulted in his 2-5 becoming Texas' first recipient of the "Breaking the Mold" award 2-6 for public institutions and as Texas' only IBM-Total Quality award 2-7 winner for higher education; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Glenn A. Goerke has championed partnerships among 2-9 business, education, and government agencies both at home and 2-10 internationally for the benefit of all Texans; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Glenn A. Goerke has become nationally recognized for 2-12 his ability to manage change, to plan and budget effectively, and 2-13 to establish environments of accountability; and 2-14 WHEREAS, Glenn A. Goerke exemplifies the values of honor, 2-15 honesty, commitment, loyalty, good humor, and academic excellence 2-16 in all his many activities; and 2-17 WHEREAS, Glenn A. Goerke would not have enjoyed such success 2-18 without the assistance of his trusted and talented friend, Dr. 2-19 Glenn Freedman; now, therefore, be it 2-20 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-21 hereby express its appreciation for and pay tribute to Dr. Glenn A. 2-22 Goerke for his contributions to higher education and to the State 2-23 of Texas; and, be it further 2-24 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-25 prepared for Dr. Glenn A. Goerke as an expression of high regard by 2-26 the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
