HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, Harris County Commissioner Jim Fonteno has been

 1-2     responsible for the development and implementation of an

 1-3     outstanding program designed to benefit senior citizens, and his

 1-4     remarkable achievements in this area are truly worthy of special

 1-5     praise and recognition; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, This worthwhile effort addresses the needs of the

 1-7     elderly through a number of initiatives, including nutrition and

 1-8     transportation programs and in doing so improves these Texans'

 1-9     quality of life while making more efficient use of public

1-10     resources; and

1-11           WHEREAS, In addition to providing basic services to senior

1-12     citizens, the program also encompasses the Senior Citizen Olympics,

1-13     a popular athletic contest that has grown to include six separate

1-14     events throughout Harris County; and

1-15           WHEREAS, The Senior Citizen Program is tailored to meet the

1-16     needs of both homebound and active individuals; community centers

1-17     have become an indispensable element of the effort, and these

1-18     gathering places provide an entire range of services and

1-19     entertainment for the elderly even as they promote their active

1-20     involvement in their community; and

1-21           WHEREAS, In large part because of the dedication and hard

1-22     work of Jim Fonteno, the Senior Citizen Program has enriched and

1-23     brightened the lives of countless residents of Harris County, and

1-24     it is indeed fitting at this time to recognize Commissioner Fonteno

 2-1     for his many valuable contributions; now, therefore, be it

 2-2           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

 2-3     hereby honor Harris County Commissioner Jim Fonteno for his

 2-4     outstanding public service and extend to him sincere best wishes

 2-5     for continued success in the years to come; and, be it further

 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-7     prepared for Commissioner Fonteno as an expression of high regard

 2-8     by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
