No. 339 75R6685 JTR-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, On June 2, 1997, Permian Basin Girl Scout Troop 113 1-2 of Midland will be in Austin as part of their "Deep in the Heart of 1-3 Texas" tour, and these remarkable young women are truly worthy of 1-4 special praise and recognition at this time; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Troop 113 was formed in 1989, and since that time 1-6 its members have demonstrated both deep devotion to the ideals of 1-7 Girl Scouting and outstanding ability in realizing their goals as a 1-8 troop; ably led by Kay Baker and Debbie Horn, the group's current 1-9 membership includes Betsy Baker, Emily Baker, Claudia Castillo, 1-10 Laura Hilsman, Nicole Horn, Courtney Huddleston, Kelly Kersh, and 1-11 Allison Nix, and together they have earned more than 20 badges and 1-12 patches, including the coveted Junior Aide badge and the Sign of 1-13 the Rainbow; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Service to others is a cornerstone of Girl Scouting, 1-15 and these public-spirited Texans have proudly upheld this noble 1-16 tradition; valued participants in the "Keep Midland Beautiful" city 1-17 cleanup effort, they have also given freely of their time and 1-18 talent to aid elderly and homebound citizens through the Golden 1-19 Agers and Meals on Wheels programs, and they have brightened the 1-20 lives of their neighbors with special holiday projects for 1-21 Christmas and Valentine's Day; and 1-22 WHEREAS, In addition to these remarkable contributions to the 1-23 community, the troop has put in more than 1,200 hours of work over 1-24 two years' time to raise funds for the "Deep in the Heart of Texas" 2-1 tour, using such diverse means as running concession stands, 2-2 hosting barbecues, creating a haunted house, baby-sitting, and, of 2-3 course, selling cookies, and they will now enjoy the fruits of 2-4 their labor as they travel to Austin, Corpus Christi, Rockport, and 2-5 San Antonio; and 2-6 WHEREAS, The members of Troop 113 have demonstrated 2-7 outstanding ability and strength of character in their many 2-8 worthwhile endeavors, and even as they look back on their many 2-9 noteworthy accomplishments, they continue to embrace new challenges 2-10 and opportunities; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-12 hereby honor the members of Permian Basin Girl Scout Troop 113 for 2-13 their exemplary service to the community and extend to them a warm 2-14 welcome to the State Capitol; and, be it further 2-15 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-16 prepared for Troop 113 as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-17 House of Representatives and Senate.
