No. 35 75R2579 ESH-D A JOINT RESOLUTION 1-1 proposing a constitutional amendment dedicating certain lottery 1-2 proceeds to public education. 1-3 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-4 SECTION 1. Section 47(e), Article III, Texas Constitution, 1-5 is amended to read as follows: 1-6 (e) The Legislature by general law may authorize the State 1-7 to operate lotteries and may authorize the State to enter into a 1-8 contract with one or more legal entities that will operate 1-9 lotteries on behalf of the State. Money received by the State from 1-10 the operation of lotteries, less amounts paid for lottery prizes 1-11 and administrative costs, may be spent only as provided by general 1-12 law for public education. 1-13 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be 1-14 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 1997. 1-15 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the 1-16 proposition: "The constitutional amendment to dedicate net revenue 1-17 from the state lottery to public education."
