No. 8 75R1607 JHS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of Henry Max Umscheid on 1-2 September 18, 1996, at the age of 63, has brought a great loss to 1-3 the family and many friends of this esteemed gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born in Austin on September 28, 1932, to Henry Miles 1-5 and Almetta Umscheid, Mr. Umscheid was a devoted family man who, 1-6 throughout his life, displayed unwavering commitment to and 1-7 tremendous love for the members of his family, whether as husband, 1-8 father, son, brother, or grandfather; and 1-9 WHEREAS, After earning a bachelor's degree in electrical 1-10 engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, Mr. Umscheid 1-11 began a distinguished career that found him employed in many 1-12 different capacities in the field of electrical engineering; in 1-13 1961, he found a home with Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, one of 1-14 the state's largest rural electric cooperatives, and was eventually 1-15 named general manager, a post he held since 1969; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Mr. Umscheid also worked for Pedernales Electric and 1-17 the Lower Colorado River Authority, and he played a prominent role 1-18 in developing rural electric cooperatives in Central Texas; as his 1-19 reputation grew throughout the years, he remained a friend of the 1-20 Lower Colorado River Authority and was known as a man who respected 1-21 the opinions of others and was a true consensus builder; and 1-22 WHEREAS, In addition to his employment within the electric 1-23 industry, Mr. Umscheid's expertise in his profession qualified him 1-24 for service on the House Select Committee on Energy Matters and the 2-1 National Rural Utilities Finance Corporation; and 2-2 WHEREAS, This generous and dedicated individual was a 2-3 prominent member of his community, and his many contributions in 2-4 behalf of his fellow citizens included directing the Lee County 2-5 Counsel on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and serving as Lee County 2-6 Democratic Chairman; he was also an active member of First United 2-7 Methodist Church in Giddings, where he faithfully represented his 2-8 fellow congregants in various offices; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Henry Max Umscheid was a man of rare compassion and 2-10 integrity, and although his guidance and devotion will be missed by 2-11 all who knew him, his spirit will live on in the hearts of the many 2-12 people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby honor the memory of Henry Max Umscheid and 2-15 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, 2-16 Gladys Umscheid; to his daughters, Pam Hobbs and her husband Jeff, 2-17 Corrie Umscheid, and Krista Umscheid-Mt. Joy and her husband Greg 2-18 Mt. Joy; to his grandchildren, Matt and Whitney Walsh; to his 2-19 parents, Henry Miles and Almetta Umscheid; to his brother and 2-20 sister-in-law, Joe and June Umscheid; and to the many other friends 2-21 and relatives of this beloved gentleman; and, be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-23 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-24 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-25 Henry Max Umscheid.
