No. 15 75R2394 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Ella Mae "Pat" Garrett on September 1-2 9, 1996, at the age of 74, has brought a great loss to the many 1-3 friends and relatives of this esteemed Texan; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A retired nurse, Mrs. Garrett was a longtime 1-5 resident of the Orange area who served her many friends and 1-6 neighbors as a member of several civic and religious organizations; 1-7 and 1-8 WHEREAS, She drew on her personal experience to benefit 1-9 countless others as an involved volunteer with the Orange County 1-10 Association for Retarded Children, and through her service as a 1-11 board member and as president of that organization she provided 1-12 crucial leadership during the association's formative years; and 1-13 WHEREAS, This distinguished woman was also active in the 1-14 Orange Pilot Club and served one year as the group's state 1-15 president; throughout all her endeavors, she was sustained by a 1-16 deep religious faith as a member of St. John's United Methodist 1-17 Church, and she gave generously of her time and talents to the 1-18 Christian Woman's Club; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Pat Garrett's remarkable contributions to the 1-20 quality of life in her community will continue to have a profound 1-21 effect on the residents of the Orange area for years to come, and 1-22 her unique spirit will surely live on in the hearts and minds of 1-23 the many people whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ella Mae "Pat" 2-2 Garrett and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: 2-3 to her beloved husband, G. L. "Red" Garrett; to her daughter, Beth 2-4 Rach; to her sons and daughters-in-law, Dalton and Dot Murphy, 2-5 Jackie and Toshi Garrett, and Mike and Sandra Garrett; to her 2-6 sisters, Nell Morgan and Voncile Blake; to her grandchildren, 2-7 great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild; and to her many 2-8 other friends and relatives; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas 2-11 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-12 Ella Mae "Pat" Garrett.
