                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The family and many friends of Lucious Wagner, Sr.,

 1-2     were deeply saddened by his passing on January 13, 1997, and the

 1-3     members of this chamber join the Wagner family and the Dallas

 1-4     community in bidding a reluctant farewell to this esteemed

 1-5     gentleman; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, A 20-year veteran of the United States Army,

 1-7     Mr. Wagner proudly served his country throughout the difficult Cold

 1-8     War era; after retiring from the military in 1970, he embarked on a

 1-9     new and challenging chapter of his life, pursuing his dream of

1-10     completing his higher education; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Working side by side with his beloved wife, Katie,

1-12     Mr. Wagner earned a bachelor's degree from Bishop College while

1-13     helping to raise the couple's six children; Mr. and Mrs. Wagner

1-14     were firm believers in the importance of education, and they

1-15     endeavored to instill this in their children through their actions

1-16     as well as their words; and

1-17           WHEREAS, The example of hard work and discipline that

1-18     Mr. Wagner embodied was not lost on those children, as evidenced by

1-19     the fact that all six went on to study at their father's alma

1-20     mater; five of the children earned their degrees from Bishop

1-21     College before the school closed in 1988, leaving the couple's

1-22     youngest son to complete his degree requirements at The University

1-23     of Texas at Dallas; and

1-24           WHEREAS, Seeing all six of his children receive college

 2-1     degrees was undoubtedly one of the greatest rewards in Mr. Wagner's

 2-2     life, for like all parents, he wanted only the best for his

 2-3     children; their academic, professional, and personal success

 2-4     brought him happiness and satisfaction beyond measure, and as they

 2-5     strive to instill in their children the same time-honored virtues

 2-6     with which they were raised, they will be offering Mr. Wagner the

 2-7     finest tribute that any parent can hope to receive; now, therefore,

 2-8     be it

 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-10     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lucious Wagner, Sr.,

2-11     and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his

2-12     children, Dwayne Wagner, Lucious Wagner, Jr., Harold Wagner,

2-13     Frederick Wagner, Kathy Wagner Houston, and Patrick Wagner; to his

2-14     grandchildren; and to all the relatives and many friends of this

2-15     distinguished Texan; and, be it further

2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-17     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-18     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-19     Lucious Wagner, Sr.
