R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Leadership Southwest Class of 1996-1997 will be

 1-2     in Austin on January 22, 1997, to celebrate Leadership Southwest

 1-3     Day at the Capitol, and this affords the members of this chamber an

 1-4     opportunity to recognize this fine program; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Leadership Southwest serves the communities of Oak

 1-6     Cliff, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, DeSoto, and Lancaster, working in

 1-7     partnership with those cities' chambers of commerce to provide

 1-8     emerging leaders with the opportunity to learn more about

 1-9     government, the legislative process, the justice system, education,

1-10     health and human services, economic development issues, and their

1-11     local economies; and

1-12           WHEREAS, Since its inception 13 years ago, the Leadership

1-13     Southwest program has trained more than 300 individuals to

1-14     effectively identify and respond to the needs of their communities,

1-15     thus enabling business, government, and community organizations to

1-16     work together to build a better future for all; and

1-17           WHEREAS, The Leadership Southwest Class of 1996-1997 includes

1-18     Adelaida Bagley, Brenda Burton, Helen Burton, Mark Connell, Raymond

1-19     Dorton, Patty Ellis, Karen Fallen, Paul David Fuentes, Robert

1-20     Hager, Rodney Harden, Olivia Harrington, Carmen Jones, Hannah

1-21     Larson, Michael Leasor, Frankie Lee, Cindy Lineberry, Tom Mahaffey,

1-22     Kathy Maples, Mike Marshall, Carolyn Mathis, Steve Meadors, Deborah

1-23     Merten, Sylvia Moreno, Steve Norwood, Suzanne Olsen, Bobby Oney,

1-24     Diane Ortiz, Linda Patton, Terry Reece, Kathryn Richey, Elnora

 2-1     Robins, Craig Root, Kristina Savage, Norman Scales, Jr., Grant

 2-2     Seabolt, Jr., Debbie Sharp, John Stephenson, Holly Teague,

 2-3     Christopher Tolbert, Reed Vance, Teresa Watts, Peggy Wilson, and

 2-4     Henry Young; and

 2-5           WHEREAS, The interest of these citizens in the operations of

 2-6     state government and, in particular, the legislative process merits

 2-7     special recognition, as this type of commitment and dedication

 2-8     forms the very backbone of the democratic process; now, therefore,

 2-9     be it

2-10           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-11     Legislature hereby recognize January 22, 1997, as Leadership

2-12     Southwest Day at the Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the

2-13     members of the Leadership Southwest Class of 1996-1997; and, be it

2-14     further

2-15           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-16     prepared for Leadership Southwest as a commemoration of this grand

2-17     occasion and as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of

2-18     Representatives.
