                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor

 1-2     the Helping One Student To Succeed (HOSTS) program for 20 years of

 1-3     dedicated service to the schoolchildren of Texas; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Since its inception, the program has paired

 1-5     thousands of volunteer mentors with students in kindergarten

 1-6     through the 12th grade to improve their reading, critical thinking,

 1-7     listening, and studying skills, to the benefit of all involved; the

 1-8     program was initiated in Harlingen, and it has since been adopted

 1-9     by many school districts throughout the state; and

1-10           WHEREAS, The hard work and dedication of its many volunteers

1-11     and participating students have helped the project to achieve

1-12     resounding success, and not only have countless children become

1-13     better readers, but many have also developed close bonds with their

1-14     mentors that they will cherish for years to come; and

1-15           WHEREAS, This worthy endeavor stands at the forefront of our

1-16     state's education initiatives, and it gives the members of this

1-17     chamber great pleasure to commend the HOSTS program for the many

1-18     significant contributions it has made to the betterment of Texas;

1-19     now, therefore, be it

1-20           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-21     Legislature hereby honor the Helping One Student To Succeed

1-22     program on the occasion of its 20th anniversary and commend all

1-23     those associated with the program for their exceptional commitment

 2-1     to the youth of our state; and, be it further

 2-2           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-3     prepared for the Harlingen Helping One Student To Succeed program

 2-4     as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of

 2-5     Representatives.
