                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Carol Harrell's outstanding work in behalf of Marion

 1-2     County and the Jefferson Independent School District (JISD) has

 1-3     earned her the respect and admiration of her fellow citizens; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Jefferson, Dr. Harrell was

 1-5     graduated from Jefferson High School in 1964; she received an

 1-6     applied arts degree in 1973, and a year later she became the school

 1-7     nurse at her high school alma mater; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, During the next six years, this industrious woman

 1-9     pursued and earned both a bachelor of science degree and a

1-10     Pediatric Nursing Degree, and in 1980 she was named principal of

1-11     Jefferson Elementary School, a job she held until accepting a

1-12     similar position in the Pewitt Independent School District; and

1-13           WHEREAS, Dr. Harrell's quest for academic excellence resulted

1-14     in master's and doctoral degrees in education from East Texas State

1-15     University, and this dedication of purpose was instrumental in the

1-16     achievement of her current position as superintendent of schools

1-17     for JISD after her return to Jefferson in 1992; and

1-18           WHEREAS, In addition to her professional and educational

1-19     endeavors, this noteworthy Texan has devoted a great deal of time

1-20     to civic organizations such as the Marion County Chamber of

1-21     Commerce and the Marion County Historical Commission; her visionary

1-22     work to promote her city's future while helping to preserve its

1-23     past is indeed remarkable, and her fellow citizens duly recognized

1-24     her efforts in 1995 when she was named Citizen of the Year; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, Carol Harrell's commitment to her community,

 2-2     particularly to the young people of Marion County, is an

 2-3     inspiration to all Texans, and she is truly deserving of special

 2-4     legislative recognition for her accomplishments; now, therefore, be

 2-5     it

 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-7     Legislature hereby honor Carol Harrell for her many contributions

 2-8     to the citizens of Marion County and extend to her sincere best

 2-9     wishes for continued success and happiness in the years to come;

2-10     and, be it further

2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-12     prepared for Dr. Harrell as an expression of high regard by the

2-13     Texas House of Representatives.
