No. 54 75R4811 PAN-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On January 29, 1997, many proud residents of 1-2 Angelina County will be in Austin to celebrate Lufkin Day at the 1-3 Capitol; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A jewel of East Texas, this county seat sits nestled 1-5 in the gently rolling hills of Texas' most abundant forest land; 1-6 and 1-7 WHEREAS, Founded in 1882, Lufkin offers its citizens an 1-8 abundance of outdoor activities and a thriving economy set against 1-9 a backdrop of significant historical achievement; convenient access 1-10 to the enormous Sam Rayburn Reservoir encourages fishing and other 1-11 water sports, and nearby Angelina and Davy Crockett national 1-12 forests provide excellent opportunities for hiking and camping 1-13 among the county's verdant woodlands; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The area's lumber and wood products industry, which 1-15 has been responsible for a major portion of the economy for more 1-16 than 100 years, continues to thrive, and to accommodate the city's 1-17 many burgeoning industries, Lufkin boasts the largest exposition 1-18 center between Houston and Dallas; in addition, the city maintains 1-19 several museums, including the Museum of East Texas and the Texas 1-20 Forestry Museum, and is also home to Angelina Junior College; and 1-21 WHEREAS, This prosperous East Texas region has benefited 1-22 tremendously from the guidance and dedication of the Angelina 1-23 County Chamber of Commerce; the members of the Texas House of 1-24 Representatives are pleased to welcome delegates of this fine 2-1 organization who are visiting Austin today, for the good work of 2-2 this group will no doubt continue to emphasize the area's heritage 2-3 while ensuring sure and steady progress into the next century; now, 2-4 therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby recognize January 29, 1997, as Lufkin Day at the 2-7 State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting citizens of 2-8 Angelina County; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce as a 2-11 commemoration of this grand occasion and as an expression of high 2-12 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
