R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Frances Arnold Ellis was given a fitting tribute
1-2 recently when the American Cotton Museum named its history gallery
1-3 in her honor in recognition of the many significant contributions
1-4 she has made to the Paris and Greenville communities; and
1-5 WHEREAS, A native of Greenville, Mrs. Ellis was graduated
1-6 from Texas A&M University and later pursued master's degrees in
1-7 journalism and home economics at the University of Iowa in Ames;
1-8 she enjoyed rewarding careers with agricultural extension agencies
1-9 both in Texas and in Michigan before she married the late Printis
1-10 Ellis in 1954 and moved back to Northeast Texas; and
1-11 WHEREAS, She is well regarded in both Paris and Greenville
1-12 for her exceptional service as a philanthropist; a descendant of
1-13 some of the region's earliest settlers, her love of history is
1-14 evidenced by her stalwart support of the American Cotton Museum;
1-15 she is also the author of "The Arnold Family Legacy," a work about
1-16 her paternal ancestors that was featured in the history gallery's
1-17 inaugural exhibition, and through this effort, she has done her own
1-18 part to preserve the area's rich past for many years to come; and
1-19 WHEREAS, She has further enhanced the quality of life in both
1-20 communities by donating the Arnold and Ellis families' homesteads
1-21 as parkland, and her extraordinary generosity has helped to make
1-22 those locales more pleasant places in which to live, work, and
1-23 raise a family; and
1-24 WHEREAS, Frances Ellis's legacy of service in behalf of her
2-1 community continues to be a source of inspiration to all who are
2-2 privileged to know her, and she is indeed worthy of special praise
2-3 and recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-5 Legislature hereby commend Frances Arnold Ellis for her outstanding
2-6 commitment to the Paris and Greenville communities and congratulate
2-7 her on the dedication of the American Cotton Museum's history
2-8 gallery in her honor; and, be it further
2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-10 prepared for Mrs. Ellis as an expression of high regard by the
2-11 Texas House of Representatives.
