R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, On January 29 and 30, 1997, public school students
1-2 from across the state will attend class in the Capitol Extension
1-3 auditorium as part of the second annual Texas Capitol Schoolhouse
1-4 program; and
1-5 WHEREAS, In what promises to become an exciting annual event,
1-6 students and teachers from 13 schools have come to Austin to
1-7 demonstrate how technology has been incorporated into the
1-8 day-to-day activities of Texas' students; with the many recent
1-9 innovations in computer technology, education techniques have
1-10 undergone rapid change, and educators are eager to develop these
1-11 modern ideas to the best advantage of Texas' young people; and
1-12 WHEREAS, In addition to their regular classroom activities,
1-13 students will participate in an on-line school day and will work
1-14 together on a Texas history project that will be made available
1-15 electronically courtesy of the World Wide Web; the students will
1-16 also receive a visit from Governor George W. Bush, who will meet
1-17 with these future Texas leaders and observe the updated techniques
1-18 being used in our state's schools; and
1-19 WHEREAS, This dynamic event will also be attended by members
1-20 of the legislature, who will be on hand to participate in this
1-21 two-day affair and to gather information that may positively affect
1-22 future legislation in the area of education; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Discourse between teachers, students, and members
1-24 will be encouraged, as each will have the opportunity to ask
2-1 questions and witness one another in action; students and teachers
2-2 will be able to learn their legislators' positions on education and
2-3 technology, and legislators will have a firsthand view of the
2-4 effectiveness of educational innovations; and
2-5 WHEREAS, Technology has become increasingly important in the
2-6 daily lives of most Americans, especially our students, and the
2-7 Texas Capitol Schoolhouse program provides an outstanding forum to
2-8 demonstrate and explore the expanding role of technology and its
2-9 potential in Texas' public schools; now, therefore, be it
2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-11 Legislature hereby commemorate the 1997 Texas Capitol Schoolhouse
2-12 program and extend best wishes to the students and teachers who are
2-13 participating in this valuable program.
