R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, January 23, 1997, was indeed a special day for Nell 1-2 Ellington Breland, for on that day she celebrated her 80th 1-3 birthday; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A vital and valued resident of Austin, Mrs. Breland 1-5 has over the years given freely of her time and talent to better 1-6 her community, and her many contributions include 25 years of 1-7 volunteer service at St. David's Hospital and work in the Austin 1-8 Independent School District; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Mrs. Breland is also an active member of All Saints' 1-10 Episcopal Church, and even as her presence enlivens the 1-11 congregation there, she draws strength and inspiration from her 1-12 fellow worshipers; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Her rich and varied social life encompasses a number 1-14 of activities; a former social director of the Modern Studies Club, 1-15 she has also served as a member and coordinator of a bridge club 1-16 and enjoys annual excursions to Las Vegas; and 1-17 WHEREAS, A great lover of music, Mrs. Breland enjoys watching 1-18 the Country Music Television channel and is a devotee of The 1-19 Lawrence Welk Show; an equally enthusiastic cook, she has seen her 1-20 recipes published in cookbooks and is the inventor of a unique 1-21 dessert sensation, the pie-cake; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Despite her many noteworthy accomplishments, 1-23 Mrs. Breland has always derived her greatest happiness from her 1-24 close-knit and loving family; she and her late husband, Dr. O. P. 2-1 Breland, Sr., were blessed with two sons, O. P. Breland, Jr., and 2-2 Michael William Breland, and today Mrs. Breland delights in the 2-3 company of two grandsons, Buck Breland and Patrick Breland; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Nell Ellington Breland is truly an inspiration to 2-5 her fellow Texans; she has made the world a better place with her 2-6 kindness, charm, and vivacity, and she is indeed deserving of 2-7 special legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-9 Legislature hereby honor Nell Ellington Breland by recognizing this 2-10 day as Nell Ellington Breland Day at the State Capitol and extend 2-11 to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in 2-12 the future; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for Mrs. Breland as an expression of high regard by the 2-15 Texas House of Representatives.
