No. 68 75R4417 JHS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The members of the New Boston High School band have 1-2 distinguished themselves by winning the State 3A Honor Band 1-3 Competition, and this achievement is truly deserving of special 1-4 legislative recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, This prestigious competition dates back to 1958 and 1-6 is designed to aid in the development of the instructional skills 1-7 of teachers and directors while also providing recognition for 1-8 communities and school systems that actively support music 1-9 education programs; in addition, the competition serves to greatly 1-10 increase the self-esteem of students by acknowledging their hard 1-11 work and commitment to excellence; and 1-12 WHEREAS, This year, the Texas Music Educators Association 1-13 (TMEA) received recordings from more than 200 bands across the 1-14 state, and as the selection process progressed through the 1-15 regional, area, and state levels, New Boston High School found 1-16 itself ranked number one; included in the band's recorded program 1-17 were Alford's "Army of the Nile," Reed's "The Hounds of Spring," 1-18 and the Arnold/Paynter composition, "Sarabande and Polka"; and 1-19 WHEREAS, To celebrate their victory, members of the newly 1-20 crowned State Honor Band will present a concert on February 14, 1-21 1997, at the TMEA's 77th annual state meeting in San Antonio; this 1-22 international gathering draws more than 15,000 people and will no 1-23 doubt provide great exposure for the New Boston Independent School 1-24 District and its outstanding music program; and 2-1 WHEREAS, With the support of a close-knit community and the 2-2 dedication of both the junior high and high school staff, the New 2-3 Boston High School band has achieved great success, and this latest 2-4 accomplishment certainly ranks high on the band's long list of 2-5 accolades and awards; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby honor all those associated with the New Boston 2-8 Independent School District on the New Boston High School band's 2-9 first-place finish in the State 3A Honor Band Competition; and, be 2-10 it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for the New Boston Independent School District as an 2-13 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
