R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor

 1-2     Johnnie Rountree on being named School Board Trustee of the Year by

 1-3     the Texas Classroom Teachers Association; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Mr. Rountree recently retired from his position as

 1-5     president of the Galena Park Independent School District Board of

 1-6     Trustees, drawing to a close a distinguished career of service to

 1-7     his community that spanned 34 years; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, This respected educator was first elected to the

 1-9     school board in 1963, and for more than three decades he played a

1-10     vital role in shaping the course of public education in the

1-11     district; and

1-12           WHEREAS, His tenure was marked by many significant

1-13     accomplishments; Mr. Rountree was instrumental in securing the

1-14     passage of the  referendum that formed the San Jacinto College

1-15     system, and he played a vital role in ensuring the passage of

1-16     percentage pay raises for area teachers that has exceeded state

1-17     requirements for the past 26 years; and

1-18           WHEREAS, Johnnie Rountree has set an inspiring example of

1-19     leadership and professional excellence throughout his career, and

1-20     it gives the members of this chamber great pleasure to honor him on

1-21     this auspicious occasion; now, therefore, be it

1-22           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-23     Legislature hereby commend Johnnie Rountree for his many years of

1-24     outstanding public service and extend heartfelt congratulations to

 2-1     him on his selection as School Board Trustee of the Year by the

 2-2     Texas Classroom Teachers Association; and, be it further

 2-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-4     prepared for Mr. Rountree as an expression of high regard by the

 2-5     Texas House of Representatives.
