                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Arthur Shaw's successful career as principal of El

 1-2     Paso's Montwood High School will soon come to a close, and this

 1-3     longtime educator is to be commended for his many contributions to

 1-4     the citizens of El Paso and the State of Texas; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Having worked in the field of education since 1970,

 1-6     Mr. Shaw has distinguished himself as a teacher, coach, and

 1-7     administrator; in 1980, he moved out of the classroom and into the

 1-8     role of assistant principal of J. M. Hanks High School, eventually

 1-9     serving as principal of that school; and

1-10           WHEREAS, In 1990, the Socorro Independent School District

1-11     opened state-of-the-art Montwood High School, with Mr. Shaw as its

1-12     founding principal; selected from an array of qualified candidates,

1-13     Mr. Shaw drew on his two decades of experience while assisting in

1-14     the planning of the physical plant, the selection of the faculty

1-15     and staff, and the development of the school's curriculum; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Through the years, this esteemed individual has

1-17     established a great rapport with many of Montwood High School's

1-18     2,900 students, as well as with the school's 260 dedicated and

1-19     highly capable staff members; Montwood High School is unique in the

1-20     fact that it is one of the few schools in Texas that features a

1-21     year-round curriculum, and its many creative programs and

1-22     innovative teaching methods have made the school a model for other

1-23     educational facilities throughout the state and nation; and

1-24           WHEREAS, Mr. Shaw's new position as an assistant

 2-1     superintendent in Farmington, New Mexico, will allow him to live

 2-2     closer to his family while continuing on his course of educational

 2-3     leadership; a published author as well, he will undoubtedly also

 2-4     continue to provide advice and guidance to teachers and

 2-5     administrators through his highly regarded publications; and

 2-6           WHEREAS, Although Mr. Shaw's resignation from Montwood High

 2-7     School represents a great loss to the Socorro Independent School

 2-8     District and the citizens of El Paso, his legacy will no doubt

 2-9     carry on, and his many good works and notable achievements will not

2-10     soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it

2-11           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-12     Legislature hereby honor Arthur Shaw for his contributions to the

2-13     field of education in Texas and extend to him sincere best wishes

2-14     for continued success and happiness in the years to come; and, be

2-15     it further

2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-17     prepared for Mr. Shaw as an expression of high regard by the Texas

2-18     House of Representatives.
