                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Both as a civic leader and as a professional, Helen

 1-2     Austin has greatly contributed to the betterment of the San Antonio

 1-3     community, and she is indeed worthy of special praise and

 1-4     recognition at this time; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, For more than 23 years, Mrs. Austin enjoyed a

 1-6     lengthy and rewarding career with the San Antonio State Hospital

 1-7     before retiring in 1987; a leader in her chosen profession, she

 1-8     initiated many innovative and highly successful programs, and her

 1-9     expertise, hard work, and dedication earned her praise throughout

1-10     her field; she was selected San Antonio Social Worker of the Year,

1-11     State Social Worker of the Year, and National Social Worker of the

1-12     Year and earned further distinction as the first Texan to receive

1-13     all three honors; and

1-14           WHEREAS, Not content with a sedentary retirement, she has

1-15     remained active in her profession and recently participated in a

1-16     workshop at the Harris County Mental Health and Mental Retardation

1-17     Center; she has continued to serve her community as an esteemed

1-18     member of several agency boards and Delta Sigma Theta sorority; and

1-19           WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, she has been sustained by a

1-20     deep and abiding religious faith as a devout member of St. Paul's

1-21     United Methodist Church, where she has held many leadership

1-22     positions through the years and currently chairs the Active Senior

1-23     Citizens Ministry; and

1-24           WHEREAS, Helen Austin has enhanced the quality of life in the

 2-1     San Antonio community in numerous ways, and her exceptional

 2-2     commitment is a source of inspiration to all who are privileged to

 2-3     know her; now, therefore, be it

 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-5     Legislature hereby honor Helen Austin for her exemplary civic

 2-6     involvement and extend to her warmest  best wishes for continued

 2-7     success and happiness in the future; and, be it further

 2-8           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-9     prepared for Mrs. Austin as an expression of high regard from the

2-10     Texas House of Representatives.
