R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Dr. James Franklin Scudday retired on May 13, 1995,

 1-2     from his position as professor of biology at Sul Ross State

 1-3     University after completing more than four decades of distinguished

 1-4     service in the field of education; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, A specialist in vertebrate biology, Dr. Scudday is

 1-6     himself an alumnus of Sul Ross State University as a proud graduate

 1-7     of the class of 1952, and he furthered his education with a

 1-8     master's degree from the University of Idaho at Moscow and a

 1-9     doctorate from Texas A&M University; and

1-10           WHEREAS, This outstanding educator began his career as a

1-11     teacher at Fort Stockton High School in 1952; after serving for two

1-12     years with the United States Army, he returned to the classroom in

1-13     1956, and for the next six years was a positive role model to

1-14     countless students as a biology teacher at Andrews High School; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Dr. Scudday embarked on his lengthy and rewarding

1-16     tenure with Sul Ross State University in 1962 as a biology

1-17     instructor; he earned the respect and admiration of both his

1-18     students and his colleagues for his professionalism, expertise, and

1-19     commitment and went on to become a professor; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Through his work as a certified wildlife biologist,

1-21     he has completed pioneering field work in the Southwestern United

1-22     States and in Northern Mexico, conducting important research on the

1-23     status of rare and endangered species of vertebrates and on the

1-24     ecology of white-winged doves in Southwest Texas; he has also

 2-1     performed valuable ecological studies in Mexico's Chihuahuan

 2-2     Desert; and

 2-3           WHEREAS, Dr. Scudday has shared his valuable insight and

 2-4     expertise as a member of several professional organizations,

 2-5     including the Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles, the

 2-6     Herpetologists League, the Texas Academy of Science, and the

 2-7     national and state chapters of both the Society of Mammologists and

 2-8     the Wildlife Society; and

 2-9           WHEREAS, James Franklin Scudday has set an inspiring example

2-10     of leadership and professional excellence throughout his career,

2-11     and his numerous accomplishments indeed merit special praise and

2-12     recognition; now, therefore, be it

2-13           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-14     Legislature hereby commend Dr. James Franklin Scudday on his

2-15     exceptional service to Sul Ross State University and extend to him

2-16     best wishes for continued success and happiness in the future; and,

2-17     be it further

2-18           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-19     prepared for Dr. Scudday as an expression of high regard from the

2-20     Texas House of Representatives.
