R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Violet Miers Jarrett on December 18,

 1-2     1996, at the age of 88, has brought a great loss to the many

 1-3     friends and relatives of this fine Texan; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Mrs. Jarrett was born in the Del Rio community on

 1-5     August 14, 1908; the daughter of R. L. Miers and Dora Lou Patton

 1-6     Miers, pioneer ranchers of Val Verde and Edwards counties, she was

 1-7     reared on the Miers Bar U Ranch and attended Emerson College in

 1-8     Boston, Massachusetts, and Texas Woman's University; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, She wed Edward V. Jarrett on February 16, 1932, and

1-10     together they made their home on the Jarrett River Ranch;

1-11     Mrs. Jarrett drew on the abundant experiences of her childhood to

1-12     excel in all facets of ranching, and she shared her extensive

1-13     knowledge and enthusiasm for her profession with countless others

1-14     as a lifelong member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers

1-15     Association; and

1-16           WHEREAS, In addition to her notable career as a rancher, she

1-17     will be fondly remembered as a warm and gracious lady who

1-18     consistently made time in her busy day to offer fellowship to

1-19     others, and she greatly enjoyed organizing social activities with

1-20     her family and friends; and

1-21           WHEREAS, The qualities that endeared her to so many emanated

1-22     from her deep and abiding religious faith; a member of the

1-23     Christian Science Church, she regularly attended the denomination's

1-24     annual meetings and was instrumental in the construction of the

 2-1     Christian Science Church in Del Rio in 1942; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, Throughout her lifetime, this exceptional woman

 2-3     touched the lives of many people, and though her presence will be

 2-4     deeply missed, her memory will endure in the hearts of those who

 2-5     came to know and love her; now, therefore, be it

 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-7     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Violet Miers Jarrett

 2-8     and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her

 2-9     daughters and sons-in-law, Cora Jane Farmer and Norman K. Farmer,

2-10     Jr. and Lourene McCrea and David McCrea; to her son and

2-11     daughter-in-law, T. J.  Jarrett and Judy Jarrett; to her 10

2-12     grandchildren, Lydia Farmer Lowry, Colin Jarrett Farmer, Edward

2-13     Kittrell Farmer, Thad Jarrett, Vivi Jarrett, Wyatt McCrea, Clay

2-14     McCrea, Jeni McCrea, Bob McCrea, and Mitchell McCrea; to her four

2-15     great-grandchildren, William Price Lowry IV, Benjamin Kittrell

2-16     Lowry, Chelsea McCrea, and Clay-Paul McCrea; to her niece, Bobby

2-17     Lou Whitehead Mayer; to her nephew, F. H. "Tuffy" Whitehead, Jr.;

2-18     and to her many other relatives and friends; and, be it further

2-19           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-20     prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas

2-21     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-22     Violet Miers Jarrett.
