R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, For more than 20 years, Samuel Eugene Davis has been

 1-2     an integral part of the music program at Sul Ross State University,

 1-3     and his many years of outstanding service are truly deserving of

 1-4     special legislative recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, A native of Dillon, Montana, Dr. Davis received his

 1-6     bachelor's degree in music, graduating with honors from the

 1-7     University of Montana in 1954; following a three-year stint in the

 1-8     United States Air Force, he attended the Manhattan School of Music,

 1-9     where in 1958 he earned a master's degree in applied music; and

1-10           WHEREAS, After receiving his doctoral degree from the

1-11     University of Montana in 1968, Dr. Davis remained on the staff at

1-12     Western Montana College as an associate professor of music; by

1-13     1975, he had been made a full professor and was serving as chairman

1-14     of that school's department of music; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Dr. Davis is a respected professor of music and

1-16     former dean of Sul Ross State University's Division of Fine Arts; a

1-17     generation of students have been fortunate to receive the benefit

1-18     of his lifetime of knowledge and expertise, and Dr. Davis's

1-19     dedication to these young people is nothing short of inspirational;

1-20     now, therefore, be it

1-21           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-22     Legislature hereby recognize Samuel Eugene Davis for his many years

1-23     of service to Sul Ross State University and extend to him sincere

1-24     best wishes for continued success and happiness in the years to

 2-1     come; and, be it further

 2-2           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-3     prepared for Dr. Davis as an expression of high regard by the Texas

 2-4     House of Representatives.
