                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The family and many friends of Billy W. Willig were

 1-2     deeply saddened by his passing on November 14, 1996, and we join

 1-3     them in bidding him a reluctant farewell; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of San Angelo, Mr. Willig was

 1-5     the son of Bruno and Mary Willig, and it was at the foundry his

 1-6     parents established, Western Iron Works, that he made his

 1-7     reputation as a businessman of ability and integrity; on receiving

 1-8     a degree in mechanical engineering from The University of Texas at

 1-9     Austin in 1950, he took over the operation of the firm, and with

1-10     the able assistance of his family, he led the company as its

1-11     president until his death; and

1-12           WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. Willig gave generously of

1-13     his time, talents, and resources, and organizations as varied as

1-14     the Boy Scouts of America, the Salvation Army, and the San Angelo

1-15     Independent School Board benefited immeasurably from his active

1-16     participation; an esteemed member of the Downtown Rotary Club, his

1-17     many contributions to his hometown were recognized in 1979 when he

1-18     received the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year

1-19     Award; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Mr. Willig's many accomplishments in public life

1-21     were strengthened by the staunch support of his close-knit family;

1-22     he likewise drew spiritual sustenance from his deep faith in God,

1-23     and he will be greatly missed by his fellow worshipers at St. Mark

1-24     Presbyterian Church; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, Though we mourn his passing, Billy Willig will long

 2-2     be remembered as a loving husband and father, a good friend, and a

 2-3     vital and valued member of the community, and it is indeed

 2-4     appropriate that the members of this chamber pay tribute to him at

 2-5     this time; now, therefore, be it

 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-7     Legislature hereby honor the memory of Billy W. Willig and extend

 2-8     sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Lanelle

 2-9     Willig; to his daughter, Jana Lynn Willig; to his son and

2-10     daughter-in-law, Bruce and Darlene Willig; to his grandchildren,

2-11     Brooks and Laura Willig; and to all the friends and relatives of

2-12     this distinguished Texan; and, be it further

2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-14     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-15     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-16     Billy W.  Willig.
