R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans

 1-2     who have shared 50 happy and rewarding years of marriage is truly a

 1-3     memorable occasion worthy of special praise and recognition; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, J. D. and Sue McKinney of River Oaks will have the

 1-5     privilege of commemorating such a momentous event in their lives

 1-6     when they celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on February

 1-7     12, 1997, with a festive dinner party; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, United in matrimony in 1947 in Decatur, Texas, the

 1-9     McKinneys have nurtured an enduring relationship that has grown in

1-10     love and mutual respect with each passing year, and they have

1-11     enriched not only their own lives but the lives of those around

1-12     them with their devotion to each other; and

1-13           WHEREAS, A World War II veteran, Mr. McKinney was well

1-14     regarded for his work as a machinist with General Dynamics, a

1-15     career that spanned 39 years until his retirement in 1989;

1-16     Mrs. McKinney pursued employment outside the home as well and has

1-17     enjoyed rewarding positions with Acme Brick Company and General

1-18     Dynamics; and

1-19           WHEREAS, Now reaping the many benefits of a full and active

1-20     life together, the couple enjoy having more time to spend with

1-21     their family, which has grown to include two beloved grandchildren;

1-22     the pair are also avid travelers, and their sojourns have taken

1-23     them across the United States and to Mexico, Canada, England, and

1-24     Scotland; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, In all their endeavors, the McKinneys have been

 2-2     nurtured by their deep and abiding faith as devout members of

 2-3     Castleberry Baptist Church, where they have been involved in Sunday

 2-4     school and other activities throughout the years; and

 2-5           WHEREAS, For a half-century, J. D. and Sue McKinney have

 2-6     shared a warm and affectionate union filled with many happy times

 2-7     and cherished family memories; built on a solid foundation of

 2-8     mutual love, trust, and support, their marriage has been a source

 2-9     of joy and inspiration to the many friends and family of this

2-10     fortunate pair; now, therefore, be it

2-11           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-12     Legislature hereby congratulate J. D. and Sue McKinney on the

2-13     occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them

2-14     warmest best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further

2-15           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-16     prepared for Mr. and Mrs. McKinney as an expression of high regard

2-17     by the Texas House of Representatives.
