No. 119 75R4125 JTR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Gloria Cutrer of Houston has distinguished herself 1-2 as a dedicated and talented neighborhood activist, and in 1-3 recognition of her many contributions to the city of Houston, she 1-4 has been honored with the 1996 Mayor's Award for Outstanding 1-5 Volunteer Service; and 1-6 WHEREAS, A retired teacher, Ms. Cutrer began her career as a 1-7 community advocate in 1993, when she founded the Gulfway Terrace 1-8 Neighborhood Association; motivated by the area's pressing need for 1-9 streetlights, street repairs, and flood control, she organized her 1-10 fellow residents into a committed and effective group, and their 1-11 many successes since that time are due in large part to her 1-12 outstanding leadership; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Ms. Cutrer has continued to give freely of her time 1-14 and energy to a number of other civic organizations, including the 1-15 Harris County Flood Control Community Advisory Committee, and she 1-16 serves as secretary to both the Houston Homeowners' Association and 1-17 the Southeast Neighborhood Coalition; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Texans are known throughout the world as both 1-19 self-reliant individuals and good neighbors, and Gloria Cutrer's 1-20 efforts in behalf of her community exemplify these proud 1-21 traditions; the people of Houston have greatly benefited from her 1-22 work, and she is indeed worthy of special praise and recognition at 1-23 this time; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby congratulate Gloria Cutrer on receiving the 1996 2-2 Mayor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service and extend to her 2-3 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the 2-4 future; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for Ms. Cutrer as an expression of high regard by the 2-7 Texas House of Representatives.
