No. 120 75R3956 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Memorial High School Sinfonia String Orchestra 1-2 has achieved outstanding success with its designation as the 1-3 1996-1997 High School String Honor Orchestra by the Texas Music 1-4 Educator Association (TMEA); and 1-5 WHEREAS, Under the baton of director Binglee Shiu, this 1-6 talented and dedicated ensemble of young musicians outperformed 1-7 fine orchestras from across the state in order to attain top 1-8 honors; and 1-9 WHEREAS, In recognition of their achievement, the members of 1-10 the orchestra will present a concert to the TMEA annual convention 1-11 of Texas band, orchestra, and choir educators on February 13, 1997, 1-12 in Beethoven Hall at the San Antonio Convention Center; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The Sinfonia, the Philharmonia, and the Camerata 1-14 constitute the Memorial High School Orchestra, and that combined 1-15 body has a remarkable tradition of excellence that has earned it 1-16 one first, one second, and two third place finishes in statewide 1-17 competition; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The Memorial High School Sinfonia String Orchestra 1-19 is a source of tremendous pride to the students and faculty of 1-20 Memorial High School, the Spring Branch Independent School 1-21 District, and the city of Houston, and its superb achievements are 1-22 indeed worthy of special legislative consideration at this time; 1-23 now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby congratulate Binglee Shiu and the members of the 2-2 Memorial High School Sinfonia String Orchestra on being named the 2-3 1996-1997 High School String Honor Orchestra and extend to them 2-4 sincere best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors; 2-5 and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for the Memorial High School Sinfonia String Orchestra as 2-8 an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
