R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great 1-2 pleasure in welcoming a very distinguished guest, the Honorable 1-3 Ruben Hinojosa, to the State Capitol; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Congressman Hinojosa was elected in November 1996 to 1-5 represent the 15th Congressional District of Texas; one of two 1-6 regional whips from the Lone Star State, he also serves as a member 1-7 of the House Committee on Economic and Educational Opportunities 1-8 and as the freshman representative to the Bipartisan Congressional 1-9 Retreat; and 1-10 WHEREAS, No stranger to the give-and-take philosophy that 1-11 characterizes congress, this Rio Grande Valley native is a highly 1-12 regarded businessman who possesses an arsenal of negotiating skills 1-13 and the result-oriented attitude necessary to assume such a 1-14 prominent role in the development of our nation's future; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas-Pan American's 1-16 master of business administration program, Congressman Hinojosa 1-17 received his undergraduate business degree from The University of 1-18 Texas at Austin; as president and chief financial officer of 1-19 family-owned H & H Foods, his leadership helped that company garner 1-20 awards from the U.S. Small Business Administration, the U.S. 1-21 Department of Commerce, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Congressman Hinojosa's commitment to education is 1-23 evidenced by the many projects he backed during his four terms on 1-24 the Texas State Board of Education and his tenure on the Texas 2-1 Higher Education Coordinating Board; among other ventures, he 2-2 spearheaded the creation of the South Texas School for Health 2-3 Professions and was instrumental in the development of the South 2-4 Texas Community College system, the upper Rio Grande Valley's first 2-5 regional college network; and 2-6 WHEREAS, He was recently awarded a Lifetime Achievement award 2-7 from Hispanic Business magazine and was named the Rio Grande 2-8 Valley's Hispanic Man of the Year in 1994, the first year of this 2-9 prestigious honor; the proud father of five children, Congressman 2-10 Hinojosa resides in Mercedes with his lovely wife, Marty; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Ruben Hinojosa's dedication to his community and to 2-12 the people of Texas has earned him the respect and admiration of 2-13 his fellow citizens, and the members of this chamber are proud to 2-14 wish him well in his most recent undertaking, confident that he 2-15 will faithfully represent his constituents and the Lone Star State; 2-16 now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-18 Legislature hereby commend the Honorable Ruben Hinojosa for his 2-19 efforts in behalf of the State of Texas and extend to him sincere 2-20 best wishes for success during his inaugural session in the United 2-21 States House of Representatives; and, be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-23 prepared for Congressman Hinojosa as an expression of high regard 2-24 by the Texas House of Representatives.
