No. 128 75R5855 JTR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, From February 27 to March 2, 1997, the cities of 1-2 Brownsville and Matamoros will join in commemorating the 60th 1-3 anniversary of Charro Days, and this milestone in the history of 1-4 one of North America's most noteworthy cultural events is truly 1-5 worthy of special praise and recognition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, First celebrated in 1937, Charro Days is an exciting 1-7 tribute to the unique heritage that has shaped this area of the 1-8 world, and by drawing on folkways from both sides of the border, 1-9 the event aptly expresses the vibrant bicultural character of 1-10 Brownsville and Matamoros; and 1-11 WHEREAS, For three days, beginning on the last Thursday in 1-12 February, these beautiful international cities will be awhirl with 1-13 spectacular costumes, stirring music, and lively dancing, and the 1-14 warm spirit of community that suffuses the celebration will bring 1-15 together people from every walk of life as enthusiastic 1-16 participants; and 1-17 WHEREAS, In celebrating the rich traditions of the border, 1-18 Charro Days has itself become one such tradition, and its 1-19 remarkable success over the years betokens a similarly bright 1-20 future; now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 1-22 Legislature hereby commemorate the 60th anniversary of Charro Days 1-23 and extend to the citizens of Brownsville and Matamoros best wishes 1-24 for an enjoyable festival.
